Apple Valley will be home to one of five Big Lots distribution centers in North America.
The 1.3-million-square-foot facility, which is expected to open during the first quarter of 2019, will be built on Johnson Road immediately south of the Walmart distribution center, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The project, which will cost an estimated $120 million, is expected to employ 400 to 500 people. It will replace the Big Lots logistics operation in Ranch Cucamonga.
“Apple Valley is ripe to capture Southern California’s next wave of economic growth,” Mayor, Scott Nassif said in the statement. “We offer a cost-competitive alternative to the rising costs and shrinking space for large scale industrial projects in the Inland Empire.”
The Big Lots logistics project will be part of the North Apple Valley Industrial Specific Plan, a 6,600-acre area that includes, besides the Walmart facility, Fresenius Medical Care’s Tru Blu Logistics Center and Victor Valley College’s Regional Public Safety Training Center, according to the statement.
