Bill would rename post office for Jack Brown

Rep. Peter Aguilar, D- San  Bernardino, has introduced a bill that would name a U.S. Post Office after Jack Brown, the late executive chairman of Stater Bros. Markets Inc.

The bill proposes renaming the post office at 390 W. 5th St. in San Bernardino the Jack H. Brown Post Office Building, according to a statement posted Thursday on Aguilar’s website.

All of California’s Congressional delegation is cosponsoring the bill, according to the statement.

“Jack H. Brown was a staple in the Inland Empire community, both as a business leader but also as an advocate for charitable causes,” Aguilar said in the statement. “From supporting our kids through the founding of the San Bernardino Boys and Girls Club, to advocating for Inland Empire veterans, to donating tens of thousands of dollars to our local law enforcement in the aftermath of the Inland Regional Center terror attack, Jack always put our families first.

“The designation of this post office, which sits in the center of San Bernardino, will remind our residents every day of his service to our community.”

Brown, who died last November at the age of 78, was the head of Stater Bros. for more than  30 years. During that time, the company grew to become the largest private employer in the Inland Empire and the largest privately owned grocery store chain in Southern California.
