City Establishes Special Website

Riverside has set up a website that provides information regarding Measure Z, the one-cent-per-dollar sales tax increase city voters approved last fall.

The website, RiversideCA.gov/MeasureZ, explains why city officials placed the measure on the Nov. 8 ballot, along with information on cuts that were made last summer to city services, according to a city statement.

Measure Z  is expected to raise nearly $50 million a year for essential services, including upgrades to Riverside’s first responder program, funding for 60 more police officers and repair and maintenance of city facilities, including police and fire stations.

“Voters wisely chose to invest in the future of Riverside and for that we are grateful,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement. “Given that vote of confidence from our constituents, it is now incumbent on the City to ensure that residents are kept informed about how their money is being spent.”

Measure Z, which received 59.6 percent of the vote, is scheduled to go into effect April 1.

A workshop on Measure Z will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at Riverside City Hall, 3900 Main St.

That meeting, which will include an update on Riverside’s budget, may be seen on cable channels Charter Spectrum 3, Frontier 21 or AT&T U- verse 99, according to the statement.
