City Presents Environmental Award

Riverside has given out its first Green Business Award.

City officials, including representatives from Riverside Public Utilities, recently presented the award to UTC Aerospace Systems, according to a statement on the city’s website.

With an assist from California’s Green Business Program, the city utility helped UTC Aerospace make changes to its operation at 8200 Arlington Ave. that helped the company save energy and water.

That facility employs about 1,100 people. It produces bond components for airplane platforms, including the Airbus A350 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, both of which are new, according to the statement.

“We want to thank UTC for taking the initiative to pursue greener practices in their facilities and operations,” Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement. “And we hope that additional businesses within the city will follow their lead to help make Riverside a greener and more sustainable community.”
