Fontana to christen emergency operations center

Fontana will hold a grand opening at its emergency operations center and remodeled police department lobby.

The event, which will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 29 at the Fontana Police Department, 17005 Upland Ave., according to a statement.

After the ribbon cutting, the lobby and emergency operations center will be available for guided tours.

Mayor Acquanetta Warren, Police Chief William Green, Fire District Chief Jeff Birchfield and Mike Antonucci, director of San Bernardino County’s office of emergency services, are scheduled to speak.

The emergency operations center will be “ground zero” for planning and response management should a city-wide disaster occur. It’s equipped with monitors, work areas for responders and audio-visual connections, all of which are designed to get information to the public quickly, according to the statement.
