Hotel Project Breaks Ground

Construction has begun on a long-planned luxury hotel in Palm Springs.

The 150-room Andaz Palm Springs is being developed at Alejo Road and Palm Canyon Drive, according to a city statement.

A groundbreaking was held this month that was attended by several local dignitaries, including Mayor Steve Pougnet and members of the city council. The four-ace site, which is now open space, is at the entrance to downtown Palm Springs.

When finished, the hotel will be a series of small buildings and bungalows. It will include 13 suites, garden areas and two outdoor pools.

“We are excited to introduce the Andaz brand to the Coachella Valley,” said Graeme Rael, principal of Rael Development Corp. in Newport Beach, the project’s developer, in the statement. “We felt this brand was the perfect fit for the community, as it is a design-oriented, eco-conscious brand with a service model that is personal and uncomplicated.”

Andaz Palm Springs is expected to open late next year, about the same time the nearby 155-room Kimpton Hotel is scheduled to open. Andaz is a branch of Hyatt Hotels Corp.
