Inland Center Mall gets some upgrades

Travelers along Interstate 215 will soon notice something different about the Inland Center Mall sign at Inland Center Drive.

It will be a news sign.

The 53-year-old pylon sign, a staple since the mall opened in 1966, is being refitted with modern graphics, LED lighting and sign panels promoting the mall’s anchor tenants: Macy’s, JCPenney,  Sears and Forever 21.

The mall is undergoing a series of upgrades, including new furniture in common areas and remodeled restrooms, that are expected to be completed this fall, according to a statement.

The Interstate 215 sign is expected to be completed, and unveiled, this month.

“We’re very pleased that Macherich continues to invest in its Inland Center retail powerhouse property that means so much to our community,” San Bernardino Mayor John Valdivia said reference to the mall’s Santa Monica-based owner.

“The highly visible new outdoor sign, in particular, will showcase major destination and attractions at the property, which has been a vital part of our City for more than 50 years.”

Cost of the renovations was not disclosed.
