Inland professional organization helps food bank

The local chapter of a national commercial real estate organization has made a major donation to a local food bank.

On Dec. 9, NAIOP Inland Empire presented a $2,500 check to Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino, said Steven Batcheller, the chapter’s president and a partner with Panattoni Development in Newport Beach.

That money, along with some canned goods, was collected in November, during the chapter’s annual bus tour of major industrial properties in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

That event attracted about 275 participants.

“About half the events we do every year are for charity, in one form or another,” Batcheller said. “NAIOP has always believed you should give something back to the community you work in.”

More than 30 members of NAIOP Inland Empire spent the day sorting and packaging food donations. Those items will provide about 50,000 meals during the holidays to hundreds of needy families throughout the Inland region, according to a statement.

Recently, the chapter made a similar donation to The Blessing Center in Riverside, a faith-based charitable organization that provides food and clothing to struggling individuals and families.

NAIOP Inland Empire is the leading professional organization for local developers, real estate brokers and commercial property owners. It helps its members by providing networking events, business development opportunities, educational programs and legislative resources, according to the statement.

Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that distributes more than 2.5 million pounds of food every month to various charitable organizations, including emergency food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, senior food programs and residential treatment centers.

Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino is one of more than 200 food banks affiliated with Feeding America, a national food bank network based in Chicago, according to the local organization’s website.
