Local embroiderer helps police revamp uniforms

The Ontario Police Department has a new insignia on its uniform shoulder patch.

Action Embroidery Corp. in Ontario teamed up with the department to design a more contemporary logo, one that officers began wearing last month, according to a statement.

The new insignia adds a U.S. flag and two well-known buildings in Ontario, the police department and city hall. The previous logo showed Euclid Avenue, a major north-south thoroughfare that runs through the city.

“We’re thrilled to be working with local officers on this project and have that local support for our businesses,” said Ira Newman, president of Action Embroidery, in the statement. “We’ve worked with police departments from all over Southern California in the past, and I’m glad our local police department is working with businesses in the community they serve.”

Action Embroidery was started in 1943. It is one of the largest makers of insignias for the U.S. Armed Forces, and it has also made patches for police and fire departments, political campaigns, youth organizations and NASA, according to the statement.
