Local Toro division receives environmental award

The Toro Co. has been given a 2017 WaterSense Excellence Award by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The award recognizes Toro’s contribution to the federal agency’s WaterSense program, which identifies products that help save water, according to a statement released by Toro last week.

Toro officials accepted the award at the recent WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas.

During the past 10 years, Toro and nearly 2,000 other participants in the WaterSense program have saved more than 2.1 trillion gallons of water, more than all of the water used by all U.S. households for 75 days.

Also during that time, products and homes bearing the WaterSense label have helped cut the energy needed to heat, treat and transport water by 284 billion kilowatt hours. That’s enough to power more than 26 million homes for one year, according to the statement.

The Toro Company is a global operation that makes outdoor maintenance equipment, including lawnmowers, sprinklers, lighting systems and irrigation systems. Its Riverside office is the company’s irrigation division.
