New store for Stater Bros.

Stater Bros. will move into the site of a former Vons store in Hemet.

The new store, at 3125 W. Florida Ave., will replace a smaller Stater Bros. store across the street at the corner of Sanderson and Florida avenues, according to a Stater Bros. release.

The location, in the West Village Shopping Center, is scheduled to be handed over to Stater Bros. in February. It will then be remodeled and expanded to 46,000 square feet, nearly twice the size of the Stater Bros. store it’s replacing, according to the release.

Cost of the move and the remodeling was not disclosed. The new store, which will include a full-service delicatessen, seafood department, bakery and floral department, is expected to be ready sometime next fall.

San Bernardino-based Stater Bros. has six stores in the San Jacinto Valley, including four in Hemet. It’s first Hemet store opened in 1953, according to the release.

Stater Bros. is the largest private employer based in the Inland Empire, with 168 supermarkets and more than 18,000 employees throughout Southern California.
