Obamacare attracts local applicants

Nearly 21,000 residents of Riverside and San Bernardino counties have started applications for health insurance plans provided by Covered California.

An estimated 20,873 applications were started between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, while nearly 10,000 people from the two-county region have enrolled in health insurance plans, according to a report originally published in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin,.

Statewide, about 777,000 people began applying for Covered California during that time, according to the report, which cited data from the state Department of Health Care Services as its source.

Covered California is the program set up to administer the federal Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, in the state.
