Officials in Riverside County could get a pay hike

Several elected officials in Riverside County, including the sheriff and district attorney, might be in line for substantial raises.

The officials, who already earn six-figure salaries, would receive pay hikes approaching 25 percent if a proposal before the Board of Supervisors Today is approved, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

A separate measure would bring supervisors’ salaries in line with pay earned by Superior Court judges. That could give each of the five
supervisors a raise of about $5,000 a year, according to the report.

Five Riverside County department heads are selected by voters to four-year terms: sheriff, district attorney, auditor-controller, treasurer-tax collector and assessor-county clerk-recorder.

The county’s human resources department wants to raise the salaries of elected officials to make them competitive with the county’s top-level managers. Those salaries were last adjusted six years ago, according to the report.
