OIA traffic up

Passenger traffic at Ontario International Airport increased 8.5 percent in January compared with the first month of 2016, according to data released this week.

The airport, which was recently returned to local control after being owned by the city of Los Angeles, served 339,083 passengers in January compared with 312,413 passengers served in January 2016, airport officials reported Monday.

Domestic traffic was up 9.3 percent in January year-over-year, while international traffic dropped 6.6 percent during that time.

Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines and Alaska Airlines carried the most passengers during the first month of this year.

Cargo freight handled at Ontario International totaled 46,816 tons in January, a year-over-year increase of 8.6 percent, according to the data.
