An Inland Empire businessman is starting a company based on Uber that will move household goods and business products instead of people.
EZER is scheduled to launch Feb. 1 with drivers, all of whom will use their own trucks to cover the Inland Empire, said Glenn Todd, president of Todd Construction Services in Pomona.
Like Uber, the San Francisco-based transportation network that provides rides to people with drivers who use their own cars, EZER will be accessible exclusively through a smart phone application, Todd said.
Unlike Uber, passengers will not be part of the ride. Drivers will move items exclusively for individuals and businesses at a rate of $1.40 per mile and 33 cents per minute.
The fledgling company, which will expand to all states if it succeeds in the Inland Empire, expects to make the bulk of its profits from business clients, Todd said.
“As we got into our research we realized that our business model would work better on the business side,” said Todd, who said he began working on EZER about four months ago. “It will work for individuals – if you buy a patio set and need to have it shipped home, for example – but businesses need to have products moved every day.”
