Report: IE built most warehouse space between 2010 and 2016

The Inland Empire led the United States in the construction of warehouse space from 2010 through 2016, according to data released Thursday.

About 13.7 billion square feet of logistical space was built in the United States during that time, with the Inland Empire adding nearly 67 million square feet, the most of any U.S. submarket, CBRE Group Inc. reported in its study on the national logistical market.

Dallas/Ft. Worth was second with 51.4 million square feet added, followed by Chicago at 43.3 million, Atlanta at 26.2 million and Houston at 21.1 million.

The rapid growth of e-commerce fulfillment centers is fueling the growth of warehouse space, and it’s also making the taller: the average height of a U.S. warehouse last year was 33 feet tall, up from approximately 24 feet during the 1960s, CBRE reported.
