Riverside Restaurant Project Gets Green Light

The Riverside City Council on Tuesday voted in favor of a planned 15,000-square-foot project that will bring a variety of dining and grocery options to the city’s downtown.

In a 6-0 vote, the council gave its approval to the “Mess Hall on Market Street,” according to the city clerk’s office.

Specifically, the council approved a 55-year lease for the property at 3605 Market Street next to the Fox Performing Arts Center. That building will be transformed into a food hall similar to Grand Central Market in Los Angels or the Anaheim Packing House.

Pomona-based Arteco Partners, parent company of Riverside Food Hall LP, has been negotiating with the city since last December. Arteco operates the Claremont Packing House in the Claremont Village and is responsible for restoring parts of downtown Pomona, including the Fox Theater.

The Riverside project is expected to create 75 full and part-time jobs and 25 construction jobs, according to a city statement.

Councilman Andy Melendrez declined to vote because of a potential conflict of interest.
