SB Rotary celebrates its first century

The Rotary Club of San Bernardino held its 100th anniversary celebration Saturday at the Arrowhead Country Club, 3433 N. Parkside Drive in San Bernardino.

The gala event featured cocktails, dinner, dancing, a raffle, a free commemorative photo, and more, according to a statement.

San Bernardino’s rotarians were the 483rd rotary club chartered in the United States and is one of 40,000 clubs nationwide operating today, said Harry Holmes, president of the club and a club member since 1978.

“One hundred years is a long time, so this is a big deal,” said Holmes, who owns and operates Holmes Ice Co. in Colton. “I think we’ve done a lot of good [charitable] work over the years.”

That work includes providing college scholarships through its Rotary Life Program, donating dictionaries to elementary school students and restoring Rotary Plaza at San Manuel Stadium, home of the Inland Empire 66ers baseball team.
