Some Riverside County Schools to reopen

Four school districts in Riverside County will be allowed to return to in-person instruction, now that the county’s daily COVID-19 cases are fewer than 25 per 100,000 residents.

Riverside County reached that milestone Tuesday, which means that K-6 classes may resume if they have an approved safety plan that conforms to state guidelines, according to a statement.

Four Riverside County districts meet that standard: Corona-Norco Unified School District, Palo Verde Valley Unified School District, Desert Sands Unified School District and Murrieta Valley Unified School District.

“The pandemic has had a major impact on education, like everything else, and as case rates currently continue to decline we can start getting more kids back in class,” said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, Riverside County’s public health officer, in the statement.  “But this can’t be without safety precautions or monitoring. Our districts and schools are committed to operating safely, and so am I.”

  1. This is foolish. Why not wait until the new academic year? Hopefully by then coronavirus is more under control as vaccines are rolled out.

  2. What are the stats of opening schools elsewhere in the world? Maybe we should use the data from openings elsewhere and surges in numbers after opening. Many countries have had experience in opening . Maybe their data points should be included in the decision making process.

Children are at a crossroads which includes COVID surges as they are not being investigated as spreading entities. It is maybe better to investigate the data rather than blindly opening .

Schools are at present capable of protecting teachers, and older family members from the group of the population which to date is not studied

Children rarely show symptoms and can spread COVID without their knowledge
