State OK’s handling of workers comp cases connected to SB shooting

Most workers compensation filings related to the December, 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino were approved, with the majority of treatment delays due to doctors not submitting proper information, according to state officials.

San Bernardino County “establish[ed] a model for dealing with incidents of this nature by hiring nurse case managers to facilitate treatment requests,” according to a statement on the county’s website.

That statement referenced the mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center 15 months ago, which left 14 people dead and 22 wounded.

A total of 2,146 requests for treatment were submitted – including surgeries, prescriptions, physical therapy and counseling – in connection with the shooting, about 2,000 of which were approved, according to the statement.
