Stater Bros. to consider UFCW settlement

Stater Bros. will hold a series of meetings to decide whether to accept a contract that was reached between the United Food & Commercial Worker Union and three other major supermarket chains.

The meetings will be held in Bloomington, Perris, Victorville and Palm Desert, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

No dates for the meetings were released.

UFCW members have already agreed on two-year agreement with Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons that grants some pay increases and leave benefits intact.

Stater Bros. conducted its own negotiations with the union, which it usually does. The company has a history of accepting contracts similar to the agreements reached by its rival supermarket chains with the union.

San Bernardino-base Stater Bros is the largest private employer in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. It operates 167 supermarkets and employs about 18,000 people throughout Southern California, according to a company statement.
