Stater Bros. makes major donation

Stater Bros. Charities has donated $321,225 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The donation, which will help give blood cancer patients better access to treatment, was raised during June, according to a statement.

Last month, $1 and $5 paper mobiles were sold to customers at checkout stands at all 168 Stater Bros. supermarkets.

The money raised from those sales will go to the society’s Patient Travel Assistance Program in Southern California, which helps patients who cannot afford to pay their travel expenses to doctors and treatment centers.

During the past eight years, Stater Bros. Charities has raised more than $2.6 million for the society, which is based in Orange. It’s the world’s largest voluntary health agency’s dedicated to treating blood cancer, according to the statement.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is extremely grateful to Stater Bros., its employees and customers who are helping to make a difference in the lives of so many patients with blood cancer,” said Mark Roithmayr, the society’s chief development officer, in a statement.

“Stater Bros. is helping to advance lifesaving treatments and patients support services, and it’s all happening now.”

State Bros. Charities was founded in 2008. It’s a non-profit entity that supports “critical needs” in communities where Stater Bros. employees live and work, according to the statement.
