Torres starts program to help vets

Rep. Norma Torres, D-Pomona, has started a program that gives veterans easy access to discounts at restaurants, hotels, retail stores and other businesses nationwide.

The Veteran Identification Card Assistance Program allows veterans to take advantage of multiple discounts without having to carry sensitive documents that prove they’re veterans, according to a statement.

“Veterans have made countless sacrifices for our nation’s safety and well-being [and] it’s a shame that red tape can sometimes make accessing their benefits confusing and daunting,” Torres said in the statement. “The Veteran ID Card Assistance Program seeks to simplify that process and make it easier for veterans to access the resources they’ve worked so hard to earn.”

Torres is the mother of a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the House Appropriations and Rules Committees. To reserve an appointment to secure a card please click here.
