Ted Alejandre will retire as San Bernardino County’s superintendent of public schools.
Alejandre, who was elected to the position in 2014 and reelected in 2018 and 2022, said in a statement he will not seek reelection in January.
Alejandre was the county’s 34th school superintendent and the first Hispanic to hold that position.
“Serving the students and communities of San Bernardino County has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Alejandre said in the statement. “Together, we have accomplished so much, and I am deeply proud of the progress we’ve made as a community,” Alejandre said.
Alejandre was the district’s deputy superintendent before being elected superintendent. He was named Superintendent of the Year in 2022 by the Association of California School Administrators, according to the statement.
