ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT expects a busy summer

One point seven million air travelers are expected to pass through Ontario International Airport this summer, airport officials are predicting.

If that forecast is accurate, Ontario International will have surpassed the pre-pandemic summer of 2019 by 50,000 passengers, or 3.2 percent, according to a statement released by the Ontario International Airport Authority.

That forecast is based on several factors: First, that the airport in March and April this year exceeded its 2019 passenger counts for those months, and that flight schedules and seat occupancy indicate an increase in passenger traffic.

“Summer is an exciting time to visit Southern California, and the easiest way to reach our many great attractions is to travel through Ontario International,” said Atif Elkadi, the authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “Demand for air travel is strong, and we look forward to welcoming airline passengers with our enhanced customer-service amenities.”

The summer travel season begins Friday and ends Labor Day. Airlines are expected to offer more than 2.1 million seats on inbound and outbound flights during that time, with 80 percent of those seats likely to be filled, according to the authority.
