SBC homeless population goes up

Homelessness is apparently going up in San Bernardino County.

There were 2,118 homeless people living within the county on Jan. 25, a 13.5 percent increase year-over-year, according to the annual Point-In-Time Count conducted on that date.

San Bernardino had 646 individuals living without a permanent home, 313 in shelters and 333 outside of shelters.

Homelessness among veterans was up 12.6 percent, unaccompanied women 23 percent and unsheltered families close to 100 percent. The county’s chronically homeless population – anyone homeless for one year or more – dropped 18 percent, the report found.
