Six students from Yucaipa Christian School have placed third in a regional art contest and will advance to the state finals March 29 at the Riverside Convention Center.
Elementary school students Lily Bosse, Cameron Dominguez, Savannah Hewitt, Leo Walt, Saela Wardlow and Joshua Waters competed in the regional round of the Laugh ART Loud team challenge March 1 at Cope Middle School in Redlands, according to a statement.
Known collectively as the Fuzzy Mustaches, the students had to research the work of an artist born outside the United States, then present three live comic strip panels based on that research.
The Yucaipa Christian students’ presentation was based on Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.”
The competition is sponsored by Destination Imagination, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that tries to help students become innovators and leaders. The Laugh ART Loud competition emphasizes creativity and requires the participants to solve problems as a team, according to the statement.
