Proposed measure would bring back redevelopment

A proposed ballot initiative would reinstate California’s redevelopment agencies.

Supporters of the measure have received donations from cities, including $50,000 from Ontario and $25,000 from Anaheim, according to a report that was first published in The Press-Enterprise.

The “Jobs and Education Development Initiative,” filed by the Rutan & Tucker law firm in Costa Mesa, would need close to 505,000 signatures of registered voters to qualify for the ballot.

Several cities besides Ontario support the measure, but many of them don’t want to be identified because of pending litigation involving the breaking up of their redevelopment agencies, according to the report.

The Brown Administration eliminated redevelopment agencies in 2012 as a way to help solve the state’s budget crisis.
