Apple Valley has canceled this year’s Sunset Concert Series and Freedom Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the town’s annual Fourth of July concert will be held at Brewster Park, 21024 Otoe Road, although not in its usual format, according to a statement posted Monday on the town’s website.
“We’ve gotten so many inquiries as to whether or not there would be fireworks that we just couldn’t imagine an Independence Day without them,” said Mayor Scott Nassif in the statement.
State law still prohibits large gatherings, so all gates at Brewster Park will be locked to prevent on-site viewing. Town residents are encouraged to view the 18-minute show, which is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., from their home or a vehicle parked in open space.
Private use of fireworks is illegal in Apple Valley, with violators subject to a $1,000 fine.
