La Vonda M-Pearson, Apple Valley’s director of government services, recently received the Value Based Leadership with Heart Award from the City Clerks Association of California.
M-Pearson helped write the town’s resolution denouncing racial injustice and inequality. Town council members approved it earlier this month.
“This was an important moment for me, both personally and professionally,” M-Pearson said in the statement. “As a black woman, I’m proud to have played a role in this important discussion in Apple Valley.”
“La Vonda is a staple of our organization; but because she does so much of her work behind the scenes, the community doesn’t really know her or her work,” Mayor Scott Nassif said in the statement. “She is one of our greatest assets and we couldn’t be prouder for her.
The town clerk’s office provides records of town agendas, meetings, actions and provides passports services. M-Pearson has also helped the town’s response to COVID-19, according to the statement.
