Ontario International Airport is expecting heavy passenger traffic during the Labor Day weekend.
More than 77,000 travelers, domestic and international, are expected to use the airport between Sept. 1 and Sept. 5, a 4.3 percent increase from Labor Day 2019, the last year not affected by COVID-19, according to data released yesterday by the Ontario International Airport Authority.
“It has been a great summer at Ontario International as travelers returned to our airport in higher numbers,” said Atif Elkadi, the airport authority’s chief executive officer, in the statement. “The Labor Day travel estimate certainly tracks with our summer forecast which predicted that passenger volumes would continue to surpass pre-pandemic levels.”
In May, the airport authority predicted that more than 1.7 million passengers would use Ontario International during the summer travel season which began May 27, the Friday before Memorial Day, and will end next Monday.
