UC Riverside outperformed the University of California system in freshman applications for this year’s fall semester.
Applications to the nine UC campuses were down 2.2 percent year-over-year, but UC Riverside received 3.7 percent more requests for admission in that time, according to a statement on the school’s website.
The school received 56,462 applications – an increase of 2,097 – for the winter 2023 semester. That was the second-largest year-over-year increase in freshman applications, second only to UC Santa Cruz.
UC Irvine was the only other campus to report an increase.
UC Riverside’s strong showing is being attributed to better recruiting and its digital marketing campaign. The school’s admissions team increased its in-person visits by 13 percent last fall, according to the statement,.
That system received 245,768 unduplicated applications — 206,405 potential freshman and 39,363 would-be transfers — for fall 2023. Unduplicated means the numbers account for the same person applying to multiple UC campuses, according to the statement, which is based on data released last week by the UC system.
