The Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge raised $1 million for charities on Sunday at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, the most money raised in the golf tournament’s 16-year history.
The event, named for the late executive chairman of Stater Bros. Markets, attracted 350 sponsors and seven Congressional Medal of Honor winners, according to Stater Bros. Charities.
Dave Stockton, San Bernardino native and two-time winner of the PGA Championship served as honorary chairman. Ten other professional golfers, including Lee Trevino, Gary McCord, Donna Caponi-Byrnes ad Brittany Lang, also participated.
At the tournament’s awards banquet, Stater Bros. Charities awarded $310,000 to local nonprofits, including the Congressional Medal of Honor Society ($50,000), Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center ($50,000), Children’s Fund ($50,000), FIND Food Bank ($50,000), Shoes That Fit ($50,000), the C4 Foundation ($50,000) and the Hunter Lopez Memorial Foundation ($10,000).
“It’s because of our generous sponsors and the time given by our Medal of Honor recipients and professional golfers that Stater Bros. Charities can fund the important work of nonprofits throughout Southern California,” said Nancy Negrette, president of Stater Bros. Charites, in a statement .
