CSUSB Palm Desert campus to get new building

The California State University Board of Trustees has approved plans for a student services building on the school’s Palm Desert campus.

The 23,700-square-foot building will have an advising-tutoring center, career center, a library, group study space, a cross-cultural center, and a campus bookstore, among other amenities, according to a statement on the university’s website.

When finished, the Student Services Building will free up a combined 10,000 square feet of space in three buildings: the Mary Stuart Rogers Gateway Building, the Indian Wells Center for Educational Excellence, and the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building.

That space will be converted into classrooms and offices.

“After our success securing state funding, we are excited to see this project advance,” said Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella, in the statement. “The construction of a new Student Services Building in the Coachella Valley supports student achievement, increases resource accessibility, and strengthens opportunities for future growth.”

Groundbreaking is expected to happen in June 2025. The cost of the project was not disclosed.
