CSUSB names its inaugural distinguished alumnus

Ellen Weisser has been named the first recipient of Cal State San Bernardino’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Weisser, who graduated in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in English, was recognized for her work on behalf of her alma mater, having been a founding member of the university’s Philanthropic Foundation Board, according to a statement on the school’s website.

Weisser was also involved in the first theater program at Cal State San Bernardino, establishing an endowment on its behalf, and she helped set up The Grove Charter School, a Montessori-based high school in Redlands.

The award will be presented during a dinner and ceremony on Feb. 16 at Cal State San Bernardino’s Santos Manuel Student Union. The three university-wide awards – Distinguished Alumni, Emerging Leader, and Coyote Spirit – will be presented, as well as the Paw Print Awards, which honor alumni from each of the university’s five colleges, according to the statement.
