Former KNBC-TV sports anchor Fred Roggin will serve as celebrity grand marshal of Palm Springs’ 31st annual Festival of Lights Parade to be held Dec. 2.
A Coachella Valley resident, Roggin will be joined by Canine Mayor Buddy Holly and several other community grand marshals at Palm Springs’ signature holiday event, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Roggin spent 43 years at KNBC before stepping down as the station’s sports director in January. He still co-hosts a radio sports talk show on KLAC-AM.
The downtown parade usually attracts up to 100,000 spectators. This year’s event is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. at Palm Canyon and Ramon Road and will include floats, marching bands, holiday balloons and a visit from Santa Claus.
NBC Palm Springs is scheduled to start its coverage at 6 pm.
