Ontario International Airport has opened a facility that will help some international travelers when they arrive at the airport.
The Global Entry Enrollment Center, which the airport opened in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will allow low-risk passengers to move through customs quicker when they arrive at the airport, according to a statement on the airport’s website.
Anyone seeking to use the center – the sixth in California – must pass a stringent background check after being interviewed face-to-face with government officials.
The program uses special processing technology to help determine eligibility.
“We are thrilled that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has selected Ontario International to serve as the site of its newest Global Entry Enrollment Center,” said Alan D. Wapner, board president of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in the statement “We look forward to helping residents across Southern California access this time-saving international travel amenity.”
Flights to and from Ontario International’s three International destinations – Taiwan, Mexico, and Latin America – have doubled in the past year, according to the statement.
