California can deal with the drought best by cutting outdoor water use, according to an attorney for the Santa Ana Watershed Project.
Larry McKinney, general counsel, said today that there are a number of ways to combat the drought, but the best way might be for people to cut water use in their own homes, especially in their front and backs yards.
“There are a lot of things we can do, but maybe the most effective would be to cut our residential use as much as we can,” said McKinney, a panelist at the eighth annual San Bernardino County Water Conference, which was held at Cal State San Bernardino.
Even a 10 percent cut in residential use could save the state 6,000 acre feet of water every year, said Jeff Sims, assistant general manager with the Western Municipal Water District and a panelist along with McKinney.
About 360 people attended the conference, which was sponsored by the Baldy View Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California.
