An 85,000-square-foot courthouse that handles domestic and civil cases has opened in Menifee.
The Menifee Justice Center at 27401 Menifee Center Drive cost $95.2 million to build and was paid for with funds from SB 1407, according to a statement.
It was developed by the Judicial Council of California, and it replaces the 51-year-old Hemet Courthouse.
“We wanted to design a space that elicits feelings of calm and security in an otherwise stressful situation,” said Chris Caron, project architect at Los Angeles-based Perkins&Will, which designed and built the project. “The Menifee Justice Center was designed with clear wayfinding (easy navigation) for visitors, an important consideration for any high-volume courthouse.”
The building has five courtrooms for family, traffic, and civil cases, nearly twice what was available at the Hemet Courthouse, according to the statement.
