Barstow is looking for volunteers to serve on a committee that will oversee spending generated by Measure Q, a one percent sales tax approved by voters in 2018.
The five-member resident oversight commission will be made of Barstow residents who hold no office with the city, according to the position application on the city’s website.
Commission members will serve two-year terms that will begin on Jan. 1 and end Dec. 1. Members will be made up of one individual each from city council districts one through four, and a fifth at-large member.
If no one applies from one of the four districts, the council will select someone regardless of where they live. A majority vote of the city council will confirm each appointment.
Every three months, the commission how the city is spending money generated by Measure Q, which is meant to help pay for public safety and city services.
It will also prepare a report at the end of each fiscal year regarding the total revenue generated by Measure Q and how much is being spent by each department, and an annual report that will be part of the regular budget process.
Applications should be sent to the city clerk’s office not later than 4:30 p.m. March 4.
