San Bernardino County is better positioned to deal with heavy snow than it was two years ago, when its mountain communities were overwhelmed by blizzards.
That is the county’s official response to the final report issued last year by the county’s civil grand jury, which examined the county’s response to the mega-storms of February-March 2023, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The board of supervisors approved the “better-positioned” response Feb. 25.
“We appreciate the grand jury’s analysis, and its bringing it to us in a way that is constructive so we can partner to make things better for our residents and businesses,” Supervisor Dawn Rowe said in the statement.
Actions taken by the county in the past two years include setting up an emergency response public information system. It also launched the Preparedness Starts Here public information campaign and website, prepare.sbcounty.gov, a one-stop emergency information resource for residents.
County agencies are studying how to provide residents with real-time information through an application platform, and the Emergency Alert System on AM radio stations, according to the statement.
