The Inland Empire recorded a 5.7 percent unemployment rate rate in July, up from a revised 5.3 percent the previous month, according to the state Employment Development Department.
California’s jobless rate was 5.3 percent last month, while the national rate was 4.4 percent, the EDD reported.
The Inland Empire’s numbers are seasonally adjusted, the state and national numbers are not.
The Inland region lost 15,900 jobs in July – 15,000 non-agricultural jobs, 900 agricultural – between June and July. Government had the greatest number of losses, 15,400, with most of those at the state and federal level.
Leisure and hospitality (down 1,700), construction (down 1,600), and professional and business services (down 400), all recorded job losses.
Trade, transportation, and utilities added 3,100 jobs, the most of any sector, the EDD reported.
