The San Bernardino County Community Development and Housing Department has received approval to conditionally commit up to $11 million toward development of the city of San Bernardino’s Homeless Outreach Prevention and Education Campus, a regional navigation center that will provide temporary housing and support for homeless people, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The project, expected to cost about $36.2 million, be located in the renovated School of Hope at 796 E. Sixth St. It will have up to 200 interim housing beds, up to 70 of which will be for recuperative care. The campus will also provide medical and employment services, behavioral health connections, case management, assistance accessing public benefits and income support, and permanent housing placement services.
The funding will be restricted to capital development costs, meaning money used to build, purchase, or improve long-term assets, according to the statement.
