Lobbying efforts to be studied

A former state Assemblyman has been asked to evaluate Riverside County’s lobbying operation in Sacramento.

Brian Nestande, recently hired as the county’s deputy executive officer, will have until March to assess and report on the state’s lobbying efforts, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Nestande, who ran unsuccessfully for state office last November, is a Republican and a Palm Desert resident. Supervisor Kevin Jeffries asked for the review, reportedly after learning that some former county lawmakers didn’t know the county’s lobbying team in the state capital.

Riverside County pays $230,000 a year for its Sacramento lobbyists and another $188,000 annually for a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., according to the report.
