Some students at Westside Christian School in Redlands got a lesson in the U.S. military this week.
On Tuesday, the day before Veteran’s Day, each of the youngsters was assigned a branch of the military to learn about, then negotiated an obstacle course and celebrated the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corp., according to a statement.
Finally, the third through sixth graders made thank-you cards and care packages, which they later delivered to the Loma Linda VA Hospital in a show of gratitude.
“It’s important for our younger generation to learn what Veteran’s Day is about and what it means to be a patriot,” said Kelli Knowles, Westside Christian principal. “Many kids today don’t know what sacrifice is. For someone to lay down their life for our country is incredible.”
Third grader Eric Desmond agreed. “It’s nice to give back,” Desmond said in the statement.
