Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren was honored recently with a 2015 Health Champion Award for Southern California Elected Officials.
Warren received the award, which is given out by the California Center for Public Health Advocacy, at the Nov. 24 city council meeting, according to a city statement.
Every year the center recognizes elected officials at the state and local level who have made an extra effort to improve healthcare in California. Warren was one of three elected officials to receive the award this year.
“Mayor Warren has shown a commitment to engaging and empowering community residents in the pursuit of better health,” said Alfred Mata, a policy analyst with the center, in the statement.
More than 10 years ago Warren began Healthy Fontana, a community-based program that promotes healthy lifestyles, including better nutrition, among city residents.
Healthy Fontana focuses on preventing diabetes, obesity and heart disease.
