City Reaches Solar Power Agreement

Temecula has reached an agreement to buy solar power from a company in Northern California.

The transaction with SMER Research 1 LLC in Loomis, near Sacramento, will allow the city to buy electrical power that it will use at different city facilities, according to a statement on the city’s website.

That electricity will come from a solar power generating facility SMER Research is developing with the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve. Buying from that facility will save the city about 10 percent compared with what it would pay Southern California Edison, according to the statement.

Temecula officials expect their savings to increase as electricity rates continue to rise.
