Auto retailer sets up shop in Murrieta

CarMax Inc., one of the largest retailers of used cars in the United States, has opened a store in Murrieta.

The facility, at 25560 Madison Ave., will restore vehicles and ship them to other CarMax’s on the west coast, according to a statement.

It will also house the company’s first four-lane auction operation in the western United States. The store, which opened last week, employs 250 people and can handle up to 400 cars.

CarMax operates more than 170 stores in 39 states nationwide. CarMax customers can shop for nearly every make and model of automobile, either at the company’s in-store auctions or online at carmax.com.

The Richmond, Va.-based company has nearly 50,000 vehicles in its inventory nationwide, according to the statement.
