Mauricio Arellano has been named superintendent of the Redlands Unified School District.

The district board unanimously approved Arellano’s appointment during its regular meeting Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Arellano, currently the assistant superintendent of human resources for the Palm Springs Unified School District, is scheduled to begin his new duties Sept. 18.

Arellano has held his present job since 2003.

Before that he taught elementary school and was a principal in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. He signed a three-year contract worth $220,000 a year and will receive multiple benefits, including a car allowance of $500 a month and a $400-a-month expense allowance, according to the reports.
