Show to benefit earthquake victims

A comedy and music show that will benefit victims of earthquake damage in Cuautla, Mexico, Riverside’s sister city, will be held Sunday.

The event is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at the Fox Theater, 3801 Mission Inn Ave, according to a statement.

Tickets are $20 each, and all proceeds will go to help people in Cuautla and Jojutla, both which were near the epicenter of the 7.1 earthquake that struck Sept. 19. As of today, the death toll has reached 344.

“Our friends in Cuautla are struggling, and Riverside is stepping up to help,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement. “We are very fortunate to have such capable partners who can put together such an event on short notice for people who are very much in need.”

The event has multiple sponsors, including Alvarez Lincoln Jaguar, the city of Riverside, Live Nation and Cardenas Markets. Tickets can be purchased at www.livenation.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Cuautla, population 145,000, has been a sister city to Riverside since 2005. Riverside Fire Department personnel regularly travel there to train firefighters and donate vehicles that can no longer be used in Riverside, according to the statement.
